The best negotiator you can be

About Us

India's first negotiation club

The Ashoka Negotiation Club provides an all-inclusive, collaborative, and risk-free environment for young minds to learn the science of negotiation. Our purpose is to establish effective machinery and administration for the learning of rich negotiation skills & develop an energizing network of connections through partnerships.

We empower our members to strive toward attaining mastery over the practice of negotiation by disseminating essential information about negotiation concepts such as Principled Negotiation, BATNA and so on. This comprehensive approach not only allows members to share their new-found learnings with people but also promotes a high standard of critical thinking and inquisitivity that we wish to uphold at the Ashoka Negotiation Club.

We help develop these skills through technique-oriented workshops & miniature and marquee case study-sessions that set real-world precedents to learn from. To put our learning to test, we compete and conduct negotiation competitions. We are a team of 20+ members committed to learning, practicing and making the science of negotiation accessible to all interested in it!

Our Mission

  • Cultivate a systematic and inventive way of thinking within both the professional and non-professional (informal) set-ups by applying scientific methods, academic insights, and tested practice in Negotiations.
  • Nurture the development of enterprising individuals who can also face and creatively pursue challenging realities outside their expertise to generate win-win outcomes
    • An investment banker dealing with environmental rights' groups
    • A scientist dealing with the research ethics committee
  • Establish effective machinery and administration for the learning of rich negotiation skills through core activities guided by mentors, advisors, and field professionals.

Our Work

  1. Workshops: We organize a series of workshops that help build the skill of negotiation. These include ‘Try-It-Out’ Workshops - which introduce new and prospective members to the basics of negotiation, ‘Practice’ workshops- which give students an opportunity to negotiate and Talks - which are given by professional negotiation authorities and industry experts.
  2. Case Studies: While the Workshops aid to the members' theoretical understanding of the practice of negotiation, the case studies assist in building the members' practical understanding of the science of negotiation through the simulation of real-world situations.
    1. Miniature cases: Studies involving small cases, entailing the use of 2-3 techniques and involving not more than 3 actors in the negotiation. Example: Bargaining situation between the directors of two zoos (Indian and Chinese) negotiating over buying the endangered species (Panda)
    2. Marquee cases: Sophisticated studies mimicking real-world scenes (often the case studies involving real-life conflicts and agreements) involving many actors and requiring more time commitment (2-3 hours) Example: The Microsoft- Nokia merger/acquisition deal of 2004; Cyprus Crisis
  3. Negotiation Competitions:
    • Intra-varsity Negotiation Competition (Spring): Largest Negotiation competition for Ashokan students within the university.
    • Inter-varsity Negotiation Competition: Negotiation competitions organized in association with other universities.
